Stringer Topo V19.02 Release Notes

Stringer Topo V19.02 uses a Civil Survey Solutions V19 license.  Following installation you will be placed on a 30 day evaluation and require a V19 license key for permenant/extended usage.  All subscription customers automatically receive V19 license keys which can be obtained from the Civil Survey Solutions Subscription Portal.

Stringer Topo

  • Fixes
    • Fixed issues with the line label tools not using the drawing settings (units and angles)
    • Fixed a bug with the Export to 12d command failing if there were output elements missing from the drawing (eg: no 2d polylines)
    • Reducing survey files with point numbers containing more than 10 digits no longer results in incomplete file reduction, instead advising that this needs correction
    • Civil 3D Platform
      • Improved the speed of the Validate Codes command for larger point data sets in Civil 3D.  Added an option to NOT apply Description Keys to the points.  This is currrently a slowdown in the process. We recommend all customers to highlight all points in the Point List in the Civil 3D Toolspace, right click and choose ‘Apply Description Keys’.  This is a much faster way to update points based on the Description Key set.
    • AutoCAD/BricsCAD Platform
      • When .z was applied to a field code with a custom elevaiton attribut, the elevation was still displaying
      • Doing a group level shift on points with customer attributes and .z applied to the point resulted in elevations reporting at -899
      • Fixed an issue with the minimum text size in the Lot Area and Number command
  • Improvements
    • Ribbon interface improved across all platforms.
      • Moved the Settings tab to be before the Import (Connect) tab to better reflect core workflows
      • Renamed the tab Connect to Import.
      • Renamed Stringer Connect to ‘Import & Reduce’.  All import functions have been added to the command dropdown button (eg: Import CivilCAD, etc).
      • Renamed the tab Exchange to Export.  Included all export functions here in a command dropdown, as well as moving Tree Symbol, Legend Table and Rotate Symbol to this tab.
      • Three core point edits, Delete Line SegmentJoin Codes and Embed New Code, are now buttons in a column on the Point Edits tab
      • Updated many icons to improve clarity when the dark theme (default) is applied.
    • Settings are now transferred from previous to new version.  Settings established in the previous version of Stringer (Stringer V18) are now copied across to the new V19 settings location, so do not have to be manually copied or re-entered.  Previously, specific customer settings need to be manually re-established every year update.
    • Model Viewer
      • Model Viewer can now display contours in the 3D view.  In the Toggle Display form, click on the Contours tab to enable display.

Spedific changes per ribbon panel/platform are shown below:

Note: Highlighted items are renamed or relocated commands.  Circled commands are new.

  • Added a new command in the Stringer Settings dropdown to Open Settings Folder.  This opens to where the settings files for Stringer Topo are located
  • The Auto Label command now uses the units and angles as set in your drawing and has been enhanced to enable more output control.  You can now separately control the bearing and distance information, and there is more control over arc labels
  • the Export Points command has been added to the Outputs menu.  You can use this command to output the COGO points to file.

Note: Highlighted items are renamed or relocated commands.  Circled commands are new.

  • New Commands
    • Open Settings Folder.  This opens to where the settings files for Stringer Topo are located
    • Find Code. Locate points in the drawing based on the point description (code)
    • Distance Offset by Point Number.Enable point distance/offset enquiries by typing in point numbers from the drawing
    • Explode Points. Create separate layers for the different display text in the point labeles (Point number, elevation and description) by appending a suffix to the layer name of the original point layer.  Immediately following point selection users are prompted to do a Save As and save a copy of the drawing
    • Explode Survey.  This command helps package the drawing for sharing with end customers.  This brings together the Extract Objects from Surface command and Explode Points command, to enable a single command option to extract CAD entities and create a copy of the drawing.
    • Labels >  Lot Area and Number. This command will label closed polylines with a lot number and area text at the centroid of each polyline,  The Number Area Only label will only increment a number in the drawing as each polyline is selected.
  • Changed the handling of applying the .z parameter in the Import and Reduce command
  • Added a button on the Stringer Settings form to edit Templates (templates are set offset linework that can be attached to a code pickup and can optionally be assigned to any code for stringing).  The Template Editor is a form with a graphic display to help in the creation and editing of Templates.  These can also be created and edited using a text editor.

Known Issues

  • Civil 3D
    • After first restarting Civil 3D post install, the Stringer Topo Ribbon may not display.  Simply close and reopen Civil 3D to have it re-display.
    • For large point data sets, speed of import and updating is still to be improved.  The entire process is being redeveloped to significantly improve import and edit speed for large point data sets.
  • AutoCAD
    • After first restarting AutoCAD post install, the Stringer Topo Ribbon may not display.  Simply close and reopen Civil 3D to have it re-display.
  • BricsCAD
    • If you have points already creaed in the drawing and you use the Point Style Creator to edit the label style for a particular point style, all points in the drawing using that style will have their layer set to the current drawing layer (ignoring the layer as set in Stringer Settings).  If this occurs, run the Stringer Settings command and click on Save and Exit.  This will reinsert the points on the expected layers.
    • If you are upgrading from Stringer Topo V18, you may see a message during startup in the command line about load failing for SA_Stringer.lsp.  This message will have no effect on the operation of Stringer Topo V19, however you can remove the message by following the instructions at this link: https://www.stringersurvey.com.au/stringer-topo-v19-02-for-bricscad-message-about-unable-to-load-sa_stringer-lsp/
    • During startup you may see the message ‘Warning: Ignoring duplicate command “str_extract_attributes”:’. This message has no effect on the operation of Stringer Topo and can be ignored. It will be removed in the next update.
